There is a farm that produces 14 Halal-certified milk, yogurt, ice cream, butter, and honey products. This farm, called Nakahora Farm, is located in the Kitakami Mountains of Iwate Prefecture at an altitude of 700 to 850m. Here, dairy farming is carried out using “mountain dairy farming” techniques.

Cattle at Nakahora Farm freely roam the mountains throughout the year eating leaves and grass grown naturally under the sun, moon, and rain, rather than being cooped up in narrow barns eating an imported formula feed primarily consisting of GMO corn.

Grazing cattle are provided with grass and leaves*. In addition, our cattle are allowed to “mate naturally, and give birth naturally”, and calves are breast-fed for the first month after birth. This is because we believe maintaining the feeding habits and actions of the animals are important in helping to foster healthy livestock.

Here, the cattle, people, mountains, and forests enjoy a calm harmonious existence, without too much milking of cattle and cutting down of trees.

Nakahara Farm can be considered an ideal dairy farm not only for persons who demand Halal-certified products, but also for persons who want “original food offering peace of mind” and are concerned about “animal welfare”.

The biggest feature of this farm is that it does not use pesticide, chemical fertilizer, and chemical additives. So, the milk and other dairy products such as ice cream and yogurt are produced without the use of chemical components, and are enjoyed by consumers seeking food they can eat with peace of mind.

The herbivorous cattle are raised in grass and natural pastures so there is no stress on the mother cows. This fact coupled with the pasteurized non-homo milk from the Jersey cattle results in healthy and delicious milk and dairy products.

As the milk is pasteurized non-homo milk, it is said to mature in the refrigerator where the taste deepens for around two weeks following production. Having said that, you should probably avoid drinking any milk with a strange odor.

Nakahora Farm products are sold in the Matsuya Ginza first basement floor, the JR Nagoya Station Takashimaya center block second basement floor, and the Tobu Department Store / Ikebukuro Plaza Museum second basement floor lot #8.
