Who doesn’t love strawberries? Japan’s strawberries are very delicious and being loved by Japanese and people from all over the world. And did you know that Tochigi is famous with strawberry? Tochigi prefecture is the number 1 top strawberry’s production in Japan.
Why strawberries in Tochigi is delicious?
Tochigi prefecture is abundantly poured with sunlight, clean water and fertile land. Great difference of temperature in the noon and night during summer and winter is also one of the secrets in producing sweet and delicious strawberry in this prefecture.
Types of strawberries in Tochigi
There are several types of strawberries in Tochigi.
1.Tochiotome – Born in 1996. Japan’s most famous breed of strawberry which has beautiful shape, vibrant red color and rich flavored strawberry juice.
2.Tochihime – Born in 2001. The flesh is red colored and very juicy, sweet strawberry. Can only be eaten at strawberry farm.
3.Natsuotome – Born in 2011. Known as summer/autumn strawberry, delicious strawberry that can be kept good during hot season.
4.Skyberry – Born in 2011. Large, beautiful cone shape is the main feature of this breed. The fine balance of the sugar content and sour taste is also the specialty of Skyberry.
Ichigo Gari
‘Ichigo Gari’ is a famous thing to do during winter in Japan. ‘Ichigo’ means ‘strawberry’ while ‘Gari’ means ‘hunting’; is an activity where you can eat all strawberries that you can at strawberry farm in given time. It is an activity which everyone; Japanese, foreigners, family, couples, kids and even tourists are waiting for.
